Adalyn had already been waiting ten minutes in Ollivander's shop, and he was still nowhere to be seen. Picking her nails, she began to stroll slowly up and down the length of the counter impatiently, knowing that she still had plenty of first year books to purchase. Distracted with thoughts of whether or not she would make it into Ravenclaw house - the house her parents were a part of during their time at Hogwarts - Adalyn accidentally kicked a solitary wand box that had been lying hidden under the counter. Sliding across the floor, the box hit the far wall of the store behind the counter.

Quietly, Adalyn crept around to the other side, and picked up the box, placing it on the counter top. She wouldn't normally do this, being rather shy whilst in public, especially in front of experienced witches and wizards, but her eagerness to finally test out a real wand overcame her timidness. Carefully lifting the dusty, black lid of the old box, Adalyn slowly picked up the light brown wand inside, and then raised it up in her right hand. Unsure of what to do exactly, she then proceeded to imitate her mother's wand actions, that she had seen countless times at home.

However, before she even had a chance to flick it upwards, the wand sent out red sparks, illuminating the entire inside of the store. Her hand suddenly grew hot, so she swiftly dropped the wand to the floor, crying out in fright. Does this mean this wand isn't for me? she thought, feeling disappointed. She had been hopeful that the very second she'd touched it, she would know the wand had chosen her. She guessed she would just have to be patient and try out a few more. But when?! she wondered impatiently, looking behind her to the back of the store.

(Adalyn's first day at Hogwarts)
Finally making it across the Great Lake, Adalyn entered her new home for the first time, gasping at the enormity of the castle that stood in front of her. Shivering from the cold, she pulled her cloak more tightly around her, stepped into the entrance hall and glanced shyly at the other timid First Years filing in around her, wondering who, if any, would become her friend. Smoothing down her long, blonde hair, her mind wondered, contemplating cutting it into a shorter bob to keep it out of her eyes. She had been the first sibling in her family with enough courage to play quidditch against the neighbours, and her long hair always seemed to get in the way (the rest of her family have a deathly fear of heights).

She suddenly found herself snapping out of her daydream as someone crudely knocked her to the side, making her lose her balance. Her legs slipped out from under her, and she fell flat on the cold floor of the entrance hall. Looking up, she saw another first year running off, giggling. What's his problem... she wondered, as she opened her mouth to call out to him. She then stopped herself, not wanting to make more of a spectacle than she already had. Adalyn was very shy and reserved when it came to new faces, but after a few weeks of getting to know how talkative and honest she could be, she would quickly change her shy mannerisms to friendly ones. Picking herself up off the ground and dusting off her cloak, she quickly joined the line of First Years beginning to move into the Great Hall, ready for the Sorting to begin.
